Car info: My wife and I had been
on the search for a hot rod since we gave up our Harley’s in 2013! We
have always been “car people” but had sold off our toys we had before
meeting each other years ago and we were really wanting to get back
into it again.
My mother passed away unexpectedly in 2011 after that my father and I
got closer and found out he had been wanting to get back into the car
scene as well. He used to have a 1969 Road Runner as a teenager. So we
set out on a mission to take care of him on his Mopar hunt. Which meant
our search for a car would be on the back burner for a bit. We found
him a ’68 and ’69 Road Runner a couple years ago and are currently
restoring those now. Once my dad had some “toys” of his own to play
with my wife and I started our search again. Our good friend and
neighbor has a ’67 Chevelle, we have always loved the car but didn’t
really want to copy him so we initially didn’t set out for a Chevelle!
We found a ’62 Impala 409 in Tennessee and decided that would be it!
We drove down and it ended up being a dud. We had a backup plan though,
a friend of ours, Ron, in Chattanooga had another 409 so we went on to
look at that. We get into his building, which he has FULL of amazing
hot rods, and we head over the 409, but both my wife and I stopped 2
cars before the 409, at this ’66 black on black Chevelle SS and just
stare. She was the one. No doubt. The rest is history!
The car was almost completely restored to concourse state. It had a
frame off nut/bolt restoration in 2014. We have been working on
buttoning up the little things here and there to make her just right.
We may have to find another Chevelle down the road to do some
modifications too because we can’t bring ourselves to turn this stock
beauty into anything but that!
