Jim & Connie Kyncl's '67

Car info: I purchased my Chevelle from an acquaintance that lives in a little town up north, towards Yankton, called Magnet. I caught wind that there was a 67 for sale in that little town, and with a little due diligence, and detective work, I was able to track him down.
The car was a driver when I bought it, but, it had the usual rust behind the rear wheel wells and in the trunk. I drove it that way for about 5 years and then decided to restore it.
I took it to a body shop in Madison, Ne. (corvette restorations) where it spent a considerable amount of time...about 10 years. I made the mistake of telling the body shop owner to make it a fill-in project and take his time. Well, he took his time alright. At one point, he even moved it out of his shop and stored it in a farm building for about 5 years. I wasn't real shook up though because I also had a 70 ss396 Nova at the time too. I finally got on his case to get it done and even had to threaten to take it somewhere else before I really got his attention.
It is an original 138 4 sp car and I've owned it approximately 25+years. I did a frame-off restoration. The frame was sandblasted and painted and the underside of the body was undercoated. I put all new poly body mounts and suspension components. I boxed in all the control arms, made and installed a set of hop-stoppers, and also installed a set of aircraft linkage type slapper bars. The front end has adjustable 90-10, 80-20 front shocks.
The car is painted the original Tahoe Turquoise Metallic and I retained/replaced the factory vinyl top.
The engine is my version of a punched out 427. I used a 2.b.m. 454 block and had 4.b.m. truck main caps installed and had it bored .060, which should make it around 440 C.I. and 13.5:1 compression. I used high dome TRW 427 pistons and a 366 steel truck crank. It has closed chambered rectangular port heads with the big stainless valves all the way around and hardened seats. I ported, polished and gasket matched the heads and they're currently mated up with a rect port strip dominator intake and a demon rs carb. The cam is a comp cams, solid lifter, flat tappet 638/631 lift, 310/314 duration, 108 l.s. for manual transmission application. It has a Pete Jackson gear drive and the engine is sparked by an Accel 300+ ignition. The engine valve train is girdled and has roller rockers w/7/16 pushrods. I recently blew a head gasket (stock type) and the engine now has triple layer steel head gaskets.
The exhaust is comprised of hooker super comp 2 1/8" headers that feed into 3" pipes and then up to 3 1/2" pipes, after the x-pipe, out the back.
The drive train is a built t.h.400 with a Hughs 3500 stall convertor. It is linked up to a GM 12 bolt 342 posi.
The interior was done with an oem type replacement kit that me and wife installed. At that time, I changed the interior color from black to blue/turquoise.
It's not a perfect 100 point car or trailer queen by any means. I built it to drive and have fun in.
